Arbor Day 2026

Updated: May 3

It’s May 3, 2026, and we are celebrating Arbor Day in Leonard Park, hosted by the Conservation Advisory Council, 2:30 - 4 pm.

Let’s give a throw-back shout-out to Jim Gmelin and the OG Trail Team. Jim was a great volunteer in Mount Kisco. Here he is with Harry McCartney, Mike Kirsch, Susan Agnifilo, Ralph Vigliotti, and Ruth Moy (hiding in the back) after removing hundreds of pounds of garbage from the Peninsula Wetlands Trail in 2016. John Rhodes, who took the picture, is not pictured.

Jim was a Marine, a lawyer, and the ethical backbone for much of the environmental progress in Mount Kisco. He brought together people from many diverse groups to protect and restore the village’s natural resources.

Jim’s story is not just about one cleanup or one trail. It is about the kind of community Mount Kisco becomes when people choose service, stewardship, and integrity. That is the spirit worth remembering — and continuing. Jim’s name is on the Wall of Fame in Leonard Park. While you’re there, stop by and check it out.
